On the desktop computer, Photostory, Movie Maker, iPhoto and iMovie have great appeal for students and teachers for creating digital stories and subject-area narratives. One of the challenges, however, is the time commitment required with many of the multimedia-creation software. Enter Videolicious!

This free, cross-platform iOS app starts with having the user select photos and video clips to bring into the narrative. Those multimedia elements can be pulled from the camera roll or captured on the spot with the built-in camera. Next, the app records the narrator telling the story from the front video camera. Once the video is recorded, the app automatically mixes the narration with all of the selected multimedia so it all ‘fits’ within the narrated time. The finished product, saved automatically to the camera roll, starts and ends with a few seconds of the narrator, with the multimedia beautifully timed and transitioned in the middle.

For most video types, the maximum video length is 50 seconds, however selecting ‘HD Video’ allows for an unlimited video length.
